President Rodrigo Duterte issued a deadline for the Communist Party of the Philippines– New People’s Army (CPP–NPA) to explain themselves in regards to the ambush in Davao Del Norte that resulted to the death of a civilian volunteer and injured a few others.
Due to the failure of the rebel group to comply with the deadline, Duterte have formally issued an announcement lifting the unilateral ceasefire.
“Let me now announce that I am hereby ordering for the immediate lifting of the unilateral ceasefire that I ordered last July 25 against the communist rebels.”
“I am ordering all security forces to be on high alert and continue to discharge their normal functions and mandate to neutralize all threats to national security, protect the citizenry, enforce the laws and maintain peace in the land.”
The president ordered both the AFP and NPA to temporarily disregard the operational guidelines first issued.
“The PNP will follow the instructions of the commander-in-chief,” said PNP Chief Director General Bato Dela Rosa.
