MANILA, Philippines – One of the presidential candidates allegedly received P50-M in campaign funds from convicted drug lord Herbert Colangco last May election; this was according to a drug pusher who recently surrendered to the authorities.
Nicknamed ‘Lito’ in GMA’s 24 Oras report by Raffy Tima, the pusher-turned-whistle blower said Colangco, his boss, had donated P50-M to a presidential bet whose name he declined to give.
Lito, who described himself as a ‘high-roller drug pusher’, disclosed the shocking information to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa after meeting the latter on Wednesday, July 13.
Aside from President Rodrigo Duterte who was eventually declared the winner, there were four other presidential candidates – former Interior secretary Mar Roxas, Senator Grace Poe, former Vice President Jejomar Binay and former Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago.
All the five have filed their respective statements of contributions and expenditures, but apparently and quite expected, none have declared Herbert Colangco as one of their campaign donors.
Colangco is one of the high-profile inmates at the New Bilibid Prison and is arguably one of the richest, if not the richest, prisoner in the country.
Lito said his boss often boasts of his close ties with powerful politicians and public officials including a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) executive who allegedly received P150,000 each week from Colangco.
He further claimed that the former Ozamiz Robbery Gang leader receives around 200 kilos of drugs from China. He vowed to spill more beans on Colangco and his sphere of influence inside and outside the NBP in the coming days.
Colangco is classified both as a ‘high-profile’ and a ‘high-risk’ prisoner whose criminal records include a series of daring bank robberies in mid-2000s.
A Prison Watch blog described him as a “soft spoken, youthful looking, without braggadocio, courteous to a fault, is not easy to classify as an offender although if one gets through the transcript of judicial testimonies, he can outrightly be categorized as a monster already, an alien out of this planet, an inhuman and incorrigible felon.”
