“Pag wala akong nagawa after two years, sipain n’yo ako, wala akong silbi.”
This is the statement of incoming Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Arthur Tugade on Monday as he uncovered his gameplan in fixing the Philippines’ transportation dilemma. In an interview, Tugade shared he desire to change the work attitude of DOTC employees by forbidding tardiness, depressed demeanor, departmental meetings during office hours and even remove corruption within the agency.
“Yung mga tao, basta career igagalang ko iyan, basta sumunod ka sa akin. Kapag ikaw ay tumanggap, sisisantihin kita.”
In relation to it, he would also endorse the granting of emergency powers to President–elect Rodrigo Duterte to solve the traffic ordeal in Metro Manila on his first 100 days in office.
Though he assured that the Aquino administration’s program for the phaseout of old public utility vehicles will be continued. He will also put his focus on the following matters: easing airport congestion, installing Wi-Fi routers at sea ports and creating a printing office for driver’s licenses and vehicle plates.
Likewise, he’ll also prioritize the: procurement of cable cars and double-decker buses, continuance of the bus rapid transit program and modernization of the rail system. Where as before he finishes his term, he would present a draft of a 30–year transportation road map.
Tugade also expressed his satisfaction to his transition gatherings with outgoing DOTC officials led by Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya.
“They are so transparent, marami kaming nakikita na dapat pagtuunan… He (Abaya) is a gentleman and an officer.” And added, “They answered everything we asked… On that regard, saludo po ako sa kaniya.”
He further said that he will recognize the agreements Abaya presented with private firms, but will also review unsettled DOTC projects.
