Here’s some good news for 90s kids.
The much-loved Nickelodeon animated series, Hey Arnold! is set to have a TV movie reboot in 2017 or more than ten years since the show ended its six-year run from 1996 to 2004.
Nickelodeon has revealed that the upcoming movie will be called Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie and will pick up the story plot the show left when it ended.
The TV movie is expected to answer unresolved plot lines and questions from the show, including the fate of the main character Arnold’s parents, who disappeared in a jungle expedition in the fictional country of San Lorenzo when he was just a little boy.
Many of the original actors will come back to reprise their roles in the TV series, including Francesca Marie Smith as Helga Pataki, Anndi McAfee as Phoebe, Justin Shenkarow as Harold, Olivia Hack as Rhonda, Nika Futterman as Olga, Dan Butler as Mr. Simmons, Dan Castellaneta as Grandpa, Tress MacNeille as Grandma, Antoinette Stella as Stella, Carlos Alazraqui as Eduardo, Dom Irrera as Ernie, Maurice LaMarche as Bob Pataki, Kath Soucie as Miriam, Danielle Judovits as Big Patty, Danny Cooksey as Stoop Kid, Jim Belushi as Coach Wittenberg, and Craig Bartlett as Miles.
New actor Mason Vale Cotton will lend his voice to lead protagonist Arnold. Meanwhile, other new actors will also be giving their voices to Arnold’s friends such as, Benjamin Flores Jr. as Gerald, Gavin Lewis as Eugene, Jet Jurgensmeyer as Stinky, Aiden Lewandowski as Sid, Laya Hayes as Nadine, Nicolas Cantu as Curly, Wally Wingert as Oskar, and Stephen Stanton as Pigeon Man.
However, Arnold’s original voice actor Lane Toran and his best friend Gerald’s original voice actor Jamil Smith will be coming back in the reboot as well but will be lending their voices for other characters.
Nickelodeon also revealed that Alfred Molina will be giving voice to a new character, Lasombra, who is a river pirate operating in the jungles of San Lorenzo and will be the movie’s main villain.
“We’re incredibly fortunate to work with these talented voice actors who brought to life one of the most celebrated cartoons in Nickelodeon’s history. The voice cast is an essential piece to the ‘Hey Arnold’ universe and we’re excited for a new generation of fans to hear these characters in a new TV movie,” Nickelodeon Franchise Properties SVP of content development Chris Viscardi told Variety.
This latest announcement was made as Nickelodeon is set to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its first original animations.
