SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – A Filipino-American dad is making headlines around the globe for creating magical Disney costumes which is a sure hit for every kid who wish to live in the Disney world.
Helena Horton mentioned in her article for The Telegraph that the father of three kids, Nephi Garcia, specializes in enchanting costumes based on the well-loved Disney characters.
Garcia, who initially worked designing dresss for high-end fashion, now dedicates his time in designing and selling costumes for his business Designer Daddy Shop.
The father got the idea of starting a costume shop after he made a Fairy Godmother costume for his daughter, which the little girl wore in a trip to Disneyland. The costume was such a hit in the park that fellow Disney fans began being curious about the dress.
“Everybody was complimenting her and everybody was asking, ‘Oh my god, does she have an Instagram account?’” Garcia said.
To share all his creations, Garcia made an Instagram account under the name “Designer Daddy” which received a very warm welcome from fans. And guess what? The following day, the father reportedly had 10 orders.
Garcia shared that at present, he’s booked with orders for more than a year.
An article by Taylor Pittman for the Huffington Post said that Garcia’s made-to-order costumes for kids and adults can range from $ 500 to $ 1,800 (P23, 000 to P83, 500) for more elaborate designs.
Garcia said that most of the materials he uses for the costumes are imported from Europe. The designer’s dresses set up the bar for creating costumes higher and far from ordinary costume designers’ works.
Garcia’s 6-year-old daughter Lili especially loves the “transformation dresses” the designer made. One sample of such dress was Belle’s classic “Beauty and the Beast” blue and white dress that turns to her yellow ball gown.
“Now that I made her that Belle transformation dress, she’s challenged me to make different dresses,” Garcia said.
After making costumes for the Designer Daddy Shop for more than one and half year now, Garcia offers some advice to fellow designers in true Disney fashion.
“I just want to tell fellow cosplayers and costume designers, any dream that they have keep following it,” he said.
