- Senator Bongbong Marcos stated why his father should get a hero’s burial
- He said it bring closure to his family
- He noted also that it will heal a divided nation
What if the late president Ferdinand E. Marcos receives a hero’s burial? For his son, outgoing senator and defeated vice presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos, it will bring closure to their family and will heal a divided nation.
In an article written by Virgil Lopez of GMA News, it was disclosed that Bongbong thanked President-elect Rodrigo Duterte for allowing the remains of the late president to be buried at the Libingan Ng Mga Bayani in Taguig City.
“I think this will bring closure not only to my family but to the nation as well,” Bongbong noted in a press conference. Bongbong is the second child and only son of the late President and current Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Romualdez-Marcos.
Since his death as an exile on September 28, 1989 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the late president’s remains have been kept at the Marcos Mausoleum in Batac, Ilocos Norte, which was his home province.
Bongbong said the decision of Duterte will end the partisan exchange which has been ongoing for the past 30 years.
“This continuing partisan exchange that has been going on for over 30 years can finally be put to rest and I think that’s the significance of the statement of incoming president Duterte,” he said.
Amid a lot of criticisms from Martial Law victims and their supporters, Duterte pushed through with his plans; believing that Marcos deserves a place at the Libingan Ng Mga Bayani because the former leader fought for the nation’s freedom from Japanese colonizers in the 1940s.
The Marcos family now has an initial plan for the late president’s burial rites– to be held in September, the late president’s birth month.
