Traffic Problems? It has been our country’s problem for many years already yet it only gets worse and worse as time went by. But with Duterte’s promise of solving this problem in his administration, he might just have the right solution. Appointed Secretary for Transportation Arthur Tugade shared in an interview with Karen Davila, that they have been strongly considering installing cable cars to lessen the traffic jams.
He shared that he is already in communication with the same company that installed the cable cars in Bolivia. They can supply 25-seater cable cars that can transport almost 12 million people, commuters and non-commuters, alike. Quoting from his interview, he said ““Pag nagdagdag tayo ng kalsada at nag-construct tayo, lalong makaka-traffic. Kung gusto mo ng additional capacity, pumunta ka sa itaas,”. He also added that it can be installed as long as the whole length of EDSA, or even farther, up to Sta. Rosa. He plans to do it with stations in between. But as of now, there are still no clear installation map and conceptualization. “Suffice to say, for the moment, that is seriously being looked into,”
He said that their target places would be Pasig and Makati business districts where the commuters are downpouring. He added that it would only take 18 months, and will be operational by that time.
Duterte plans on asking the Congress for ‘special powers’ to solve the worsening traffic that according to a study by Japan International Cooperation Agency, costs Philippines 2.4 Million daily.
