WALES, United Kingdom – A postcard sent in 1960 has finally been delivered to the designated address after more than 55 years.
Jez Hemming mentioned in his article for Mirror Co UK that the postcard was delivered at Lloyd Street West on Friday, June 24; exactly 55 years, 10 months, and 13 days later after it was posted from Cricklewood, London.
The recipient, Yvonne Hume, said that the stamp payment she gave is worth for the scenic route that the post card took.
Yvonne, 64, and her husband 67-year-old James said they would now love to see the card reach the recipient it was originally intended for.
“It was delivered on Friday and I thought ‘it looks like an old postcard’. When I saw the stamp I thought ‘That’s funny’ but I didn’t have my glasses on,” Yvonne said.
“Then my husband looked at it and said ‘No wonder it looks funny it’s been in the post for 50 years!’ He said ‘Talk about snail mail’,” she added.
An article by the Daily Post said the postcard was originally addressed to a certain Mrs. B H Morgan and was apparently written by her cousins who were having a break in London that time.
The postcard showed different London landmarks and reads, “Dear Cousins, just having a few days here, weather not so good but been around and seen place.”
“I am with Edna and family. Going home today Thursday. Raining very heavy just now. Hope all are well and Dora’s enjoying her holiday. Love to all, from Olive xx,” it reads further.
The couple said they had lived at their property for the past three years. Records showed that in 1960 the house was turned into three flats.
“I would like to find out who Mrs. Morgan was and if any of her family are around,” said Yvonne.
