Singer Christina Grimmie was laid to rest in a “simple, intimate” funeral.
In an article written by Rebecca Pocklington and Zoe Shenton of Mirror, it was disclosed that before mourners gathered today for a memorial service, friends and family of the The Voice singer had an intimate moment with Grimmie for the last time, in a private service in Medford, her home state of New Jersey. A source described the Thursday funeral as a private, “intimate gathering for her family and close friends.”
Grimmie was shot after her concert in Orlando; and succumbed to bullet wounds in a local hospital few hours after the shooting. Police reported that a man shot the 22-year-old singer, who had competed on the US television program The Voice, while she was busy doing autographs; about 22:45, local time, on Friday (02:45 GMT Saturday) at The Plaza Live in Orlando.
The assailant, who was tackled by Grimmie’s brother, shot and killed himself later on.
Grimmie’s brother Marcus spoke out about his sister earlier this week during a vigil for the slain singer.
“Christina was awesome … she loved singing, she loved the Lord, and she loved me, and she was just my baby sister,” he said.
Grimmie, who was known on YouTube as zeldaxlove64, is an American singer-songwriter who had been popular for participating in The Voice and for her covers of hit songs by contemporary pop musicians.
In June 2011, she released her debut EP, Find Me. In June 2012, she told a reporter that she wanted to stop doing covers and start writing only original music.
In 2014, Grimmie participated in Season 6 of NBC’s singing competition, The Voice and got the third place.
