Seven suspected members of a crime group operating throughout Central Luzon have been killed by policemen during a shootout in Pampanga on Monday morning, June 20.
GMA News Online said the suspects were believed to be members of the Jimboy Santos crime group based in Magalang town in the province. Chief Superintendent Aaron Aquino, director of the Central Luzon regional police, said the group was involved in car theft, kidnapping, robbery-hold up and highway robbery.
Aquino said the shootout started when the suspects who were on board two vehicles did not stop at a police checkpoint at Barangay Pulung Cacutud in Angeles City when they were flagged down around 10:30 a.m.
Police personnel from the Central Luzon’s Highway Patrol Group and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group gave chase but were fired upon by the suspects.
Two of the suspects on board a black Mitsubishi Montero were killed in Barangay Cacutud, while the five others on board a Mitsubishi Adventure were cornered at the Mexico, Pampanga section of the Pandacaqui resettlement site where they were killed in a running gun battle with cops.
The identities of the slain suspects are yet to be determined.
