  • Young Russian-born actor Anton Yelchin died in a freak accident inside his own driveway over the weekend

  • His body was found between his car and a brick mailbox

  • Investigators did not suspect any foul play in the incident

Young actor Anton Yelchin, who portrayed the role of Pavel Chekov in the latest installments of Star Trek franchise, has reportedly died in a vehicular accident early Sunday morning, June 19.

He was  only 27 years old.

According to entertainment website TMZ, Yelchin died in a freak accident and his body was discovered by his friends who were alarmed after the Russian-born actor failed to show up for a rehearsal.

Yelchin was supposed to meet his friends hours earlier but did not show up, TMZ mentioned in its article.

They then went to the young actor’s house in San Fernando Valley and found his dead body pinned between his own car and a brick mailbox that was attached to a security gate.

Yelchin’s car was reportedly still in neutral and the engine was still running when authorities arrived at the scene to investigate.

The driveway in the victim’s home was described to be “fairly steep inclined” but the investigators are baffled why Yelchin got out of the car.

Nevertheless, police are not suspecting any foul play in the incident.

Yelchin is the son of a Russian couple who were sort of celebrities as members of the Leningrad Ice Ballet for 15 years. His parents migrated to the United States in September 1989 when he was only 6 months old.

His introduction to movie acting was via an independent film A Man is Mostly Water when he was nine years old and his earliest roles include Jackson in A Time for Dancing, Milo in Delivering Milo and Tommy Warshaw in House of D.

But his most notable role came in 2009 when he was tapped to play the Russian navigator Pavel Andreievich Chekov in the reboot of the cult sci-fi classic Star Trek. He went on to reprise the role in the 2013 Star Trek Into Darkness, and was filming Star Trek Beyond this year before his untimely death.

His other film credits include Along Came a Spider (2001), Alpha Dog (2006), Terminator Salvation (2009), Fright Night (2011) and Odd Thomas (2013), among many others.
