- Robredo shot back at Marcos over supposed LP plot to oust Rodrigo Duterte
- She pointed out that unlike him, she has no plans of becoming president
- She said Marcos’ has the ambition to be president, is the one most likely to backstab his boss
MANILA, Philippines – Amid her razor-thin lead over Sen. Bongbong Marcos in the ongoing vice presidential race, Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo turned the tables on her rival over his claim of a Liberal Party (LP) plot to oust Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte by impeaching him and letting her take over the presidency.
In an interview with Rappler, Robredo bluntly pointed out it was Marcos and not her who dreams of the presidency and would be the one most likely to stab his boss in the back in the end should the opportunity arise.
“Alam po natin lahat na si Senator Marcos, matagal nang nasa sights niya ‘yung presidency talaga. Kung meron sa aming dalawa na may pagkakataon na may balak na mag impeach ng pangulo, siya ‘yun. Ako, wala akong ganoong ambisyon. Andito ako para sa isang posisyon, hindi ambisyon,” she said.
[We all know Senator Marcos has long set his sights on the presidency. If there’s someone between us who will impeach the president if there is an opportunity, it would be him. I’m here for the position, not ambition.]
Robredo, a slow starter in the polls, overtook Marcos early Wednesday morning, May 11 after votes from her bailiwicks in the Bicol region and major areas in the Visayas and Mindanao started pouring in and has since been maintaining a 200,000-vote lead.
While her supporters have expressed their joy at her miraculous turnaround, the Marcos camp has also accused the administration of somehow rigging the counting in her favor.
