Peter Laviña, the spokesman of presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte disclosed that Sara Duterte-Carpio, popularly called Inday Sara by the Davaoeños will assume the role of the first lady when her father takes office.
Laviña told reporters on Tuesday, May 10, that the 37-year-old politician’s role as first lady won’t affect her role as the mayor of Davao City.
He said that Inday Sara’s role as the first lady will not be on a day-to-day basis.
ABS-CBN News quoted him as saying: “Even if she is city mayor of Davao, most of the roles of the First Lady will be ceremonial in nature. There is no compensation or remuneration for her role.”
Presumptive president Duterte have expressed on the radio program “Ikaw Na Ba?… The Presidential Interview” of veteran reporter Mike Enriquez on DZBB Super Radyo last February that he wants to have Inday Sara as his First Lady.
Inday Sara previously said that she has no intention of becoming her father’s first lady if ever he gets elected as the Philippine president.
“Wala akong plano na maging First Lady. Siyempre, pag nagsabi sila na tutulong, tutulong ako. Kung magiging mayor ako ng Davao sa 2016, gusto ko nakatutok ako sa trabaho. Mahihirapan ako gumalaw.”
[I don’t have any plan to become the first lady. Of course, if they tell me to help, I will help. If I get elected as Davao City mayor this 2016, I want to focus on my job. I will have a hard time doing so if I become the First Lady.]
Until now, she remains firm on her stand and sent a text message to Philippine Daily Inquirer which read: “I am not interested. I’ll be busy being a mayor.”
