MANILA, Philippines – A Cagayan de Oro-based dentist surnamed ‘Duterte’ is crying foul over Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV’s list naming him as a holder of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s property.
On his Facebook, Dr. Gian Paolo D. Duterte denies personally knowing the mayor and said he is in fact the bonafide owner of the property listed by Trillanes.
“For the record, I am a practicing Pediatric Dentist for seven years and I have established regular clients through private practice based in Cagayan de Oro City,” he wrote. “Through my profession I was able to secure a loan from the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) to purchase the real estate property in Cagayan de Oro City mentioned in the reports of GMA 7 and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
Duterte then described himself as a private citizen who’s never had any interest in running for public office. He also explained his surname; saying he has yet to know the connection between him and the mayor.
“I’ve been doing private practice as a Dental Medicine professional and have never been a politician; I never sought any elected position in the past nor ran for public office. Furthermore, our roots come from Cebu and I’ve yet to establish the degree or any connection whatsoever on how the good mayor, Rodrigo R. Duterte, and I are directly related,” he said.
Trillanes is accusing Duterte of secretly amassing billions of pesos and several properties while pretending to be pro-poor. In turn, the mayor’s camp has dismissed his accusations as part of election propaganda.
