The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) deployed more than 2,000 personnel as part of its traffic management plans related to the May 9 elections.
InterAksyon’s Clara Masinag wrote in her article dated May 6, 2016 that according to MMDA Chairman Emerson Carlos, the deployment of 2,664 employees from the agency’s different departments started on May 6 and will last until May 10. They will direct traffic around polling precincts, the main office of Commission on Elections in Intramuros, Manila and the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City, where votes for the senatorial and party-list elections will be canvassed.
He added, bus terminals, sea ports, and exit points to and from the Philippine capital, such as North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Coastal Road, McArthur Highway, Marcos Highway, Mindanao Avenue, and A. Bonifacio Drive will also be manned by additional MMDA personnel.
Chairman Carlos said traffic enforcers will be deployed in areas where candidates will hold their final campaign rallies or Miting de Avance on Saturday, May 7.
He warned motorists to expect a slowdown in traffic on May 7 in areas where following final campaign rallies will be held:
– LP Grand Unity Walk from the University Avenue to the Quezon City Circle starting at 1 p.m.
– Miting de Avance for the Duterte-Cayetano tandem across Quirino Grandstand at 3 p.m.
– Rally for Senator Grace Poe at Plaza Miranda in Quiapo, Manila
In line with the government’s “Basura-free Elections 2016” drive, the MMDA is also set to to conduct cleaning operations in schools and polling centers after the elections.
