- Sen. Francis Escudero is looking forward to go on his honeymoon with wife Heart Evangelista
- Escudero and Evangelista tied the knot on February 2015, just months before he ran for VP
- The Senator concedes in the VP race and called for an end to the bickering
After conceding the vice presidential race, Senator Francis Escudero said he looks forward to finally going on the “long overdue” honeymoon with his wife; the actress Heart Evangelista.
Escudero tied the knot with Evangelista on February 2015; just months before formally announcing his bid for the second highest position in the country.
“Siguro ‘yung matagal nang naudlot na honeymoon ay matutuloy na. [Perhaps the long overdue honeymoon can finally push through],” the Senator told Bandera.
With the heat of the campaign behind him and running mate Senator Grace Poe, who also conceded defeat to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, Escudero says he wants to spend “quieter” times with his family.
“I’m looking forward to quieter times at mas maraming time sa pamilya [and more time with the family],” he said.
The Senator made his concession speech from his hometown in the province of Sorsogon; as partial and unofficial transmission of results by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) showed him trailing behind three other candidates in the VP race.
Escudero called on unity and an end to the bickering which stemmed out of the elections.
“Sana imbes na magpatuloy ‘yung hidwaan at bangayan, kung sino man ang mananalo, bigay natin sa kanila ang ating suporta, dahil tatayo sila bilang pangulo at ikalawang pangulo ng buong bansa. [I hope that instead of continuing the rivalry and the bickering, no matter who wins, let us give them our support, because they will be standing as president and vice president of the whole country],” he told CNN Philippines.
Escudero is expected to continue serving in the Senate until his term ends in 2019.
For her part, Evangelista threw her support behind her husband; adding that she too is looking forward to their honeymoon, and potentially, a future baby together.
“I’m pretty happy because we have so much to do. We just got married, magha-honeymoon pa kami finally, and magbe-baby pa kami. There’s so much to do so ok lang ako. Sabi ko nga sa kanya, [we’re having our honeymoon together finally, and we’ll be having a baby. There’s so much to do so I’m ok. I even told him that] whatever happens, I’ll be equally happy,” she said.
