MANILA, Philippines – Fans of Tom Rodriguez and Denise Laurel were surprised when the two stars of the upcoming indie film entitled, “Magtanggol The Movie”, sang a few lines from the classic Aladdin hit “A Whole New World.”
The video, which was uploaded by Leo Velasco on Facebook garnered more than eight thousand shares since it was uploaded on Tuesday, April 12.
The song was originally sung by Brad Kane and our very own Broadway icon Lea Salonga in the hit 1992 Disney film.
It is a known fact that aside from being versatile actors, Rodriguez and Laurel are also talented singers.
The Kapuso actor earned positive reviews for his performance in the stage musical “Aladdin” back in 2012; wherein he played the title role.
According to an article published by ABS-CBN News, the former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate had a strong stage presence and a pleasing singing voice with just the right amount of technique.
He was also a part of the Kapamilya network boy group “Voiz Boyz”.
When he transferred to GMA, he also released an album entitled “TomDen” together with fellow actor Denise Trillo.
As for Laurel, she emerged as the grand winner of the “Your Face Sounds Familiar Season 2” during the show’s live finale on December 13 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila in Pasay City.
She bested the four other celebrity contestants in the grand showdown; singer/actor Sam Concepcion, singer Michael Pangilinan, Callalily frontman Kean Cipriano and X Factor Philippines grand winner KZ Tandingan. She garnered a total 27.51 percent of votes.
The singer-actress impersonated Beyonce, whom she considers as her ultimate idol, during the final performance show on December 12.
Sporting the perfect Beyonce look, Denise brought the house down with her performance of the diva’s Super Bowl XLVII rendition of “Love on Top” and “Crazy In Love”.
