- Mar Roxas took a jibe at Duterte’s vow to eradicate crime in 3 to 6 months
- The administration bet called Duterte’s promise as lies
- Roxas said fighting crimes cannot be accomplished with sweet words, but with a solid anti-crime program
Liberal Party standard bearer Mar Roxas belittled Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s promise to eradicate crime in three to six months if elected president.
A GMA News Online article dated April 6, 2016 mentioned that during a campaign sortie in Oriental Mindoro, the administration bet said Duterte’s vow to end crime in a very short time is simply impossible.
“Itong three to six months na ito, pambobola ito eh. Lahat ng eksperto na nakakaalam sa krimen, nagsasabing imposible ito,” Roxas said.
[This three to six months (promise to end crime) is just a play with words. All the crime experts are saying this is impossible.]
Fighting crime, Roxas said, can’t be accomplished with just tough words. It can only be done with solid programs. He then cited the Philippine National Police crime prevention program called Oplan Lambat-Sibat, which was his brainchild during his term as secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government.
Early this year, PNP Chief Director General Ricardo Marquez announced that crime incidents in Metro Manila and other regions were reduced drastically because of Oplan Lambat-Sibat.
Roxas said the mayor, who is one of his opponents in the presidential race, failed to eradicate crime in Davao City despite being in power for over two decades.
“Sa bilang ng murder, mataas ang Davao City. Sa bilang ng rape, mataas ang Davao City, sa droga, merong droga sa Davao City. “So papaano sasabihin na titigil lahat ito sa loob ng tatlo hanggang anim na buwan, eh sa dalawampung taon sa Davao City, hindi ito nasugpo?” he said.
[The number of murder and rape cases is high in Davao city. There is also drugs in the city. So, how can he say that all these crimes will stop within 3 to 6 months, when he failed to eradicate them in Davao City in twenty years?]
