- PDP-Laban and One Cebu party seal alliance with signing
- Koko Pimentel said the two parties share similar platforms
- Former Cebu governor said his dream of having a federal gov’t to come true at last
CEBU CITY, Philippines – It’s a done deal.
Weeks after it said it was dropping Vice President Jejomar Binay for Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, One Cebu party officially sealed its pact with PDP-Laban on Thursday midnight, April 21.
Duterte, who flew in from Kalibo and Boracay, signed the documents which ratified the two parties’ alliance. Also present during the launch was his running mate Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano.
According to PDP-Laban president Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, the two parties share many similarities in their respective platforms.
“Our two parties share many things in common. We stand united against crime and corruption. We are also determined to fight poverty by creating more jobs and giving those who have less in life better access to basic social services, such as education and health,” Rappler quoted him as saying.
Pimentel added that the alliance will prove to be a boon for both parties.
“The alliance of the two parties will further strengthen Mayor Duterte’s candidacy in Cebu and at the same time allow us to carry One Cebu’s candidates in areas where we have also fielded candidates,” he said.
For his part, former Cebu governor Lito Osmeña said he is happy his dream of having a federal government is closer than ever; thanks to Duterte.
“I am glad that something I have long dreamed about will soon come true. We will work on creating a federal form of government,” he said.
Led by the influential Garcia clan, One Cebu earlier dumped Binay and his United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) for reportedly disrespecting and neglecting their alliance.
