- Honor Thy Father won six major awards, including Best Film, at the 14th Gawad Tanglaw

The drama-thriller film Honor Thy Father was the night’s biggest winner at the 14th Gawad Tanglaw Awards, bagging six major awards including Best Picture.
The movie about a family whose lives were led to ruin by a Ponzi-like financial scam, bested other films such as the historical biopic Heneral Luna and the film about the life of boxer Manny Pacquiao, Kid Kulafu.
Director Erik Matti won as the Best Director while John Lloyd Cruz was Best Actor and Meryll Soriano was the Best Supporting Actress.
In addition, Erwin Romulo and Michiko Yamamoto won Best Musical Scoring and Best Screenplay, respectively.
Honor Thy Father has earlier earned five awards at the 41st Metro Manila Film Festival and three citations at the 32nd PMPC Star Awards for Movies.
Meanwhile, the highly-talked about historical film Heneral Luna about one of the country’s bravest heroes during the Philippine Revolution against Spain, won three awards including Best Cinematography by Pong Ignacio and the Student’s Choice Award for Best Film.
Lead actor John Arcilla, who portrayed General Antonio Luna, won the Gantimpalang Dr. Jaime G. Ang Presidential Jury Award for Film.
The Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) lists the other winners of Gawad Tanglaw such as: Tessie Tomas as Best Actress for Old Skool, JM de Guzman as Best Supporting Actor for Imbisibol, Benjamin Tolentino for Best Editing and Lilit Reyes for Best Story in Water Lemon, and Joey Luna for Best Production Design for Kid Kulafu.
The movie Imbisibol about illegal Filipino immigrants in Japan also won the Special Jury Prize for Film.
Since 2002, the Gawad Tanglaw or the Tagapuring mga Akademisyan ng Aninong Gumagalaw has honored the best works in Philippine media annually.
