- Binay criticized Duterte’s apology as insincere
- The vice president said the mayor should not be given a chance to become president
- He urged the Filipino people not to vote for Duterte
Vice President Jejomar Binay said Duterte’s apology was insincere.
VP Binay issued his statement after the mayor finally apologized for his controversial remark that caused public outcry.
On Tuesday, April 19, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte issued a statement to officially apologize for the comment he made about the Australian lay missionary, Jacqueline Hamill, who was a rape-slay victim.
“I apologize to the Filipino people for my recent remarks in a rally. There was no intention of disrespecting our women and those who have been victims of this horrible crime,” part of Mayor Duterte’s statement read.
The vice president said the damage done by the mayor’s controversial remarks cannot be erased by his apology, which he believed was insincere.
[Mr. Duterte must not be given a chance to become president. An apology, which was apparently not sincere, will not erase the truth that he uttered it (the rape joke) not only once but two times.]
[Besides being killer of the poor, he also has no respect for women. He even wants to rape a dead woman.]
Binay then urged the Filipino people not to vote for Mayor Duterte, who has been topping the recent pre-election presidential preference surveys.
