A student from Mapua Institute of Technology named Januarius Michael Bernardino bagged the championship in the first-ever “SinePatrol: The Bayan Mo iPatrol Mo (BMPM) Mobile Shorts Contest.”
Bernardino’s entry titled “Bukod Sa Aking Sarili,” which also received the “Most Liked Film” award, bested other participants from nine schools.
The short film entries feature the stories of the Filipino family in line with ABS-CBN’s campaign, “Ipanalo ang Pamilyang Pilipino” for the upcoming elections, an article written by DJ Arcon and Neima Chowdhury on ABS-CBN’s Halalan 2016 disclosed.
According to Bernardino, half of the proceeds of his prize money will be used to process the recognition of the organization he built that focuses on helping persons with disabilities (PWD).
The student’s video, which features various sectors, aims to challenge politicians and their responsibility to citizens.
Other winners include University of Santo Tomas student Ben Gesmundo’s “Dulot” which placed second, followed by the entry of Colegio De Dagupan student Edren Llanillo’s “Pasan,” which was also cited as the “Most Viewed” and “Most Shared” film.
The winners received cash prizes worth P50,000, P30,000 and P10,000 respectively and plaques of recognition.
BMPM head Rowena Paraan, congratulated the winners as she stressed the objective of the SinePatrol is “to mobilize the millennials and make them think about the elections.”
In addition, Paraan said millennials are fond of their mobile phones and are active on social media, which is why BMPM thought of a way of mobile phones to deliver meaningful messages this coming election.
ABS-CBN Integrated News and Current Affairs Head Ging Reyes, on the other hand, noted that SinePatrol is part of ABS-CBN’s campaign to educate voters.
