Barely two weeks before the local and national elections, at least five of the six Bicolano governors have expressed their support to independent presidential candidate Sen. Grace Poe-Llamanzares in her bid to Malacañang.
In an article written by Xianne Arcangel for GMA News Online on April 25, 2016, it was disclosed that Governors Joey Salceda of Albay, Edgardo Tallado of Camarines Norte, Miguel Luis Villafuerte of Camarines Sur, Raul Lee of Sorsogon, and Araceli Wong of Catanduanes assured the candidate tagged with Bicolano vice-presidential aspirant Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero of their support.
“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa suporta ng Bicol region sa pamumuno nina Gov. Salceda, Gov. Villafuerte, Gov. Tallado, Gov. Lee, Gov. Lanete, Gov. Wong at Vice-Gov. Teves. Mahalaga ang suporta ng mga local leaders sa ating ipinaglalaban [We are grateful for the support of Bicol region which is led by Gov. Salceda, Gov. Villafuerte, Gov. Tallado, Gov. Lee, Gov. Lanete, Gov. Wong, and Vice-Gov. Teves. The support of local leaders is important for our advocacies],” Poe said.
According to the lady presidentiable, Bicol needs a leader who will help improve the region’s economy.
“Mayaman ang Bicol region at matiyaga at masipag ang mga Bikolano. Kailangan lang nila ng tulong ng gobyerno para paunlarin ang kabuhayan ng bawat pamilya [The Bicol region is rich and the Bicolanos are industrious. They only need the government’s help in developing the livelihood of families],” she added.
Earlier this month, Poe vowed to revive the defunct “Bicol Express” train line if ever she will be elected as president; after the construction of the North-South Railway Project (NSRP) that is projected to be operational by 2020 was postponed due to bidding concerns.
Moreover, the senator also promised to improve the seaports in the town of Matnog, Sorsogon to allow larger ships to dock in Bicol.
