MANILA, Philippines – With ABS-CBN host Karen Davila still reeling from accusations that she was being biased against Rodrigo Duterte during the third and final presidential debate in Pangasinan, the Davao City mayor’s common-law wife Cielito “Honeylet” Avanceña urged his supporters to calm down and instead pray for his victory in the upcoming elections.
“Alam niyo mga supporters, kalma na lang tayo [To all supporters, let’s just calm down]. Mag-umpisa na tayong magdasal [Let’s start praying instead]. Alam mo may [You already know there is] divine intervention na ito. Huwag niyo na i-try [Don’t try to] to fight, because I think the people have spoken. They want a leader who can decide, who’s going to do it,” she told ABS-CBN.
For his part, Duterte spokesman Peter Tiu Lavina urged the mayor’s supporters to take the moral high ground especially against those who are not siding with him.
“From Day 1, we have called on our followers to take the moral high ground and take caution in social media. In behalf of Mayor Duterte, we reiterate such call and appeal to our social media supporters to stop bashing and even threatening journalists as well as all who express views different from ours,” he said.
Davila, an emcee during the debate, was perceived by some as being too harsh on Duterte and Vice President Jejomar Binay while asking Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer Mar Roxas easy questions.
Consequently, she explained on her social media accounts she threw the toughest questions against Duterte because she knew he could handle it since he is the leading presidential candidate.
