Korina Sanchez-Roxas’ photo cutting a buko pie with a pen drew flak from social media users.
On her Instagram page, the wife of Liberal Party standard bearer Mar Roxas, posted a photo with a caption that says, “Got sooo hungry. I remembered may buko pie na binigay sa akin si Mayor!” [Got sooo hungry. I remembered Mayor has given me a buko pie.]
In another post, a closer photo of her using a black pen in cutting the pie was uploaded with a caption: “Sorry ballpen nalang ang panghiwa [Sorry I’ve used a ballpen for slicing], hahaha! Desperately hungry.”
Facebook page Na Miriam Defensor Dre? uploaded the same photo where social media users expressed their opinions.
One user wrote, “Korina: Maghihiwa ako gamit ballpen, picturan niyo ko.” [Korina: I’ll slice using a ballpen, take a photo of me.]
Another said, “Kahit mahirap lang kami marunong kami gumawa ng paraan…parehas kayo ng asawa mo [even if we are poor, we know how to find a way… you’re like your husband],” referring to the controversial pictures of Roxas that went viral last year where he used a plate to drink water from and a mug to eat rice.
“Such a desperate act. Newscaster po kayo hindi artista! Hindi maxadong convincing. San niyo po ipe-plate yang pie? Sa tsinelas? Gutom na gutom na po ano? Very wrong indeed,” another user complained. [Such a desperate act. You are a newscaster, not an actress. It’s not convincing. Where would you put the pie? On a slipper? You are too hungry, aren’t you? Very wrong indeed.]
While many reacted negatively with what Korina did, there were also those who sided with her.
“What’s wrong with slicing a pie with a pen? She’s in a car I think this is during a campaign. Do you all think a knife is something you usually bring in a car while campaigning? I don’t think so. She is just being resourceful. Wake up your minds guys,” said one user.
Another wrote, “She’s just being resourceful. I mean we all do that sometimes pag walang solusyon ang prob, ginagawan na yan ng paraan [if there is no solution to the problem, we find a way]. So there’s actually nothing wrong about this photo. Depends on the level of understanding ng tao. I’m not defending Roxas here.”
The photo uploaded on Facebook has gathered more than 16,000 reactions and has been shared over 8,000 times.
