- A new Ghostbusters reboot is set to premiere on July 2016
- It will feature an all-female team that will patrol the streets of New York
- The events of the new film takes place more than three decades after the first movie
More than 30 years since the first team of ghost-fighting scientists saved the streets of New York from the attack of menacing ghouls, a new all-female team has emerged in the latest reboot of the beloved 1980’s film Ghostbusters.
Starring the highly-respected comediennes — Melissa McCarthey, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones, the new Ghostbusters takes place years after the events of the original franchise; facing much stronger ghosts than ever before.
“Someone is creating a device that amplifies paranormal activity. We might be the only ones who can stop it,” explains Columbia University professor Erin Gilbert, played by Wiig, in a voice over heard in the movie’s official trailer.
In the new movie, Gilbert takes on the challenge of getting rid of the ghosts haunting New York, together with her fellow paranormal expert Abby Yates, played by McCarthey, nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzmann, played by McKinnon, and New York subway employee Patty Tolan, played by Jones.
“We have dedicated our whole lives studying the paranormal. Now there’s sightings all over the city. There are people out there that need our help,” says Abby Yates.
The new set promises to do as well as their predecessors, but this time, with a different level of confidence, meticulousness, and good manners.
Wiig and McCarthey’s characters even promise to take turns leading the team into action; apologizing when they inadvertently interrupt each other while prepping up the team.
Of course, the reboot film plays tribute to the original as the team suits up a similar khaki-colored uniform and the familiar proton pack energy streams; albeit with modern modification.
The new Ghostbusters is set to premiere on July 2016. The movie also stars Chris Hemsworth, Neil Casey, and Andy Garcia, and is directed by Paul Feig.
