- GrabCar services will officially be available in all four NAIA terminals starting March 14
- Only private vehicles by Grab are allowed to operate in NAIA while GrabTaxi is still not allowed
- The price will still follow the P30 minimum base fare and P12 per succeeding kilomere
The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has approved the operation of the app-based chauffeur service GrabCar at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
After signing a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Grab company, the MIAA has allowed private vehicles registered under GrabCar to pick up and drop off passengers at the airport terminal starting March 14.
The MIAA, however, clarified that the MOA does not cover another app-based service, GrabTaxi, that matches passengers and registered taxis.
This is the first time that the airport authority has officially accredited a transportation network company to operate at the NAIA. Booths will be set up by Grab in specific location in each of the four NAIA terminals, where booking agents will assist passengers who do not have smartphones or internet connection.
With this latest development, the long queues at the NAIA terminals are expected to be minimized. Currently, only around 1,500 taxis are allowed to officially operate in the airport.
The MOA also requires Grab to be closely monitored by the MIAA. In addition, Grab drivers will have to strictly follow a waiting time period policy wherein they will have to leave if the passenger does not arrive within two minutes.
“In terms of monitoring, Grab will be providing MIAA with a dashboard or a system that will allow us to monitor real time,” MIAA public relations officer David de Castro told ABS-CBN News.
As for the price, passengers who will avail of the GrabCar services will still be charged with the P30 base fare and P12 additional for every succeeding kilometer.
