- UPLB student who penned critical open letter against Roxas says she’s been receiving death threats
- She scores those who’ve sent the death threats, says it proves country’s system needs drastic change
- She points out the irony, says the ones who sent the death threats are selfish and fearful
MANILA, Philippines – With the election campaign heating up even more on social media, a University of the Philippines Los Baños student and supporter of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte claims she has been receiving death threats ever since she posted an open letter on Facebook accusing and criticizing Liberal Party (LP) Mar Roxas of using underhanded tactics to win the upcoming elections.
“The post I made was not meant to go viral. But the fact that some people are telling me to take it down or watch out for my life from now on is exactly why we have to fight for a change in the current system,” the student, identified as Rachel Amestoso, said.
Directly addressing those who sent her the death threats, Amestoso pointed out the irony of them threatening her when they themselves are scared of Duterte’s rule. She added they are just selfish and preoccupied with their own interests to care about the state of the country.
“You argue a lot about living in fear under Duterte’s rule but you haven’t noticed the fear that has crippled you all these years,” she said. “You are more concerned with your safety than the life (sic) of future generations. Mga labad mong tanan.”
Although Amestoso’s original post has been taken down, it has since been shared on numerous social media sites such as RachFeed and Pinoy Trending News.
In her post, Amestoso essentially called on Roxas to stop compelling government employees, soldiers, and OFWs to vote for him and telling the public current projects and programs will be halted if someone other than him wins.
Most of all, she also told him to stop lying about his accomplishments in post-Typhoon Yolanda relief operations in Tacloban City.
