- Rodrigo Duterte says he’s not worried about latest SWS poll result
- He believes Filipinos will realize he’ll still be the country’s last hope
- He downplays surveys, says actual elections will be the defining factor
- Mayor’s campaign manager also belies results, says mayor has more followers now
MANILA, Philippines – Even as he and his running mate Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano suffered a dip in their standings according to the latest poll result of Social Weather Stations (SWS), Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said he’s not bothered by it.
According to the mayor, the latest poll result showing him sliding to fourth place is not a cause for worry as Filipinos will eventually realize he’ll still be the country’s last hope.
“It’s good,” he told CNN Philippines. “At the end of the day, I will be your last card.”
Duterte also downplayed the effect surveys have on the electorate.
“I do not question survey companies. But you are not there until you are there. That has always been the rule in the elections. You are not there until you are there,” he said.
For his part, Duterte’s national campaign manager, Maribojoc Mayor Leoncio Evasco, said the number of Duterte’s supporters has grown based on the increasing number of people who’ve come out to meet him on the campaign trail.
“We take survey results seriously and we have seen several, including mock polls and social media trending, reinforcing the observation that Duterte is gaining more believers, adherents and converts,” the Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted him as saying. “This has become more apparent the last couple of weeks as Mayor Duterte and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano covered more grounds than anybody in the campaign trail.”
