The Land Transportation Office (LTO) announced that it has lost license plate sheets worth millions of pesos during a burglary incident inside the agency’s compound in East Avenue, Quezon City during the Holy Week break.
In an article published by GMA News Online on March 29, 2016, it was disclosed that Assistant Secretary Roberto Cabrera, chief of the LTO, has already ordered an investigation on the matter with the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).
However, LTO spokesman Jason Salvador said that while they have pieces of information about the incident, the agency will not give speculations until the probe has been completed.
“We do not want to speculate. Let us allow the authorities to do their job and let us wait for the result of the investigation before we give the full details,” Salvador said.
Meanwhile, the public information officer also said that uniformed security personnel remain stationed in the LTO’s license plate plant and that the suspects could have passed through two gates.
For the meantime, the LTO is asking the general public to report to the agency any instance of selling or trading of license plates by calling its hotline number at (02) 921-9071.
According to Cabrera, those who will be involved in selling and trading stolen license plates will face criminal charges for violating Presidential Decree 1612 also known as the “Anti-Fencing Law of 1979.“
