- PDP-Laban chief happy with party stalwart’s latest survey rating
- He says he’s not surprised, attributes mayor’s rise to his consistency and credibility
- He believes Duterte’ ratings will continue to rise as the elections draw closer
MANILA, Philippines – Pleased with the results of the latest Pulse Asia survey which showed Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in a statistical tie with Sen. Grace Poe for first place, PDP-Laban chief Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III said he was not surprised by his partymate’s rise in the polls.
“Hindi na ako nagtataka sa pagtaas ni Mayor Duterte sa mga surveys. Actually nabababaan pa nga ako sa numbers niya, I think it is more than 25 percent,” he told GMA News.
[I’m not surprised with Mayor Duterte’s rise in the surveys. Actually, I even think his numbers are low.]
“May time lag kasi yan. The survey results are announced two weeks after the survey period so there is a time lag. I believe that Mayor Duterte has the support of more than 25 percent of the voting population,” he explained.
According to Pimentel, more and more people are flocking to Duterte because he has been consistent with his anti-crime and corruption platform.
“He is very consistent with his message, the all-out war against crime, drugs, and corruption, and this is the message which is the call of the times. According to our voters, they agree with such a priority and they believe that Mayor Duterte has the political will, has the leadership to do what he says he will do,” he said. “So he has the credibility. Hindi kami nagtataka. So we are very, very happy with the survey results and we are confident of winning the elections.”
