- Jhong Hilario says goodbye to his fans on It’s Showtime on its Thursday episode
- Hilario was a mainstay host in the noontime program for four years
- Although not disclosed, fans speculate his joining the political race as a Makati councilor is the reason behind the hiatus in the show
MANILA- After four years, dancer and actor Jhong Hilario bids farewell to his fans on the Thursday episode of ABS-CBN’s noontime show “It’s Showtime.”
The 39-year-old actor-host made his announcement short and simple. “Last day ko na ngayon [Today is my last day],” he told his co-hosts Mariel Rodriguez, Vhong Navarro and Amy Perez. “Mami-miss ko kayo. Gusto kong magpasalamat sa inyong lahat. Direk Bobet [Vidanes], thank you po sa lahat, [I will miss you. I want to thank everyone. Direk Bobet, thank you for everything]” he said.
Although he did not mention the reason behind the decision of leaving It’s Showtime, fans speculate it is because he will run as a councilor in Makati City in the upcoming elections.
Hilario, who is under the political group United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), said in an ABS-CBN interview in October that he credited his father, Makati councilor Virgilio Hilario as his main influence in joining public service.
He said his father’s term will end as a Makati councilor who has been in office for nine years. Prior to acquiring higher position in public office, the older Hilario has served the public as a barangay captain for 18 years. The Sample King said he has not heard any negative feedback against his father while in office which made him realize that there are people meant to serve others.
Prior to Hilario, original “It’s Showtime” hosts Coleen Garcia and Eric “Eruption” Tai left the noontime show early this year.
Garcia said the management wanted her to focus on her acting career, wrote Chuck Smith of the Philippine Star. Tai, on the other hand, has joined the country’s national rugby team.
