MANILA- Presidential aspirant Senator Grace Poe’s camp slammed the claims of a group that she has not passed any law for the poor while she was in the senate.
Kapatiran ng Makabayang Kababaihan (KMK) trooped in front of Poe’s campaign headquarters in Quezon City on Sunday and alleged that Poe has not passed any pro-poor law in her three years as senator. The group asked the senator to drop her candidacy and serve more years in public service in a lower position instead.
However, Poe’s spokesperson Rex Gatchalian refuted the group’s claims and tagged it as “lies and half-truths.”
In an ABS-CBN article, Gatchalian said they are saddened with the desperate move of Poe’s critics as they come up with more and more lies and half-truths against her.
“On top of this, they have also resorted to creating fictitious organizations to serve as venom bearers. Their acts of desperation started with attacking Senator Poe’s personal life — her citizenship and residency, now they have descended on what seems to be phase 2 of their attack script — questioning her performance in the Senate,” he said.
Gatchalian said the senator has authored/co-authored 231 measures to date that focus on issues as protection of the environment, human rights, gender sensitivity and non-discrimination, sound economy, business competitiveness, children’s welfare and livelihood and employment.
He added that in Poe’s three-year stay in the Senate, she has managed to pass two laws identified as Republic Act 10639 or the “Free Mobile Texts During Disaster Acts,” and Republic Act 10640 which restructures the “Three-Witness Rule” of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
In addition to that, Poe has co-authored R.A. 10635 (MARINA Act), R.A. 10659 (Sugarcane Industry Development Act), R.A. 10644 (GO Negosyo Act), R.A. 10653 (Income Tax Exemption of 13th Month Pay) and R.A. 10645 (Expanded Senior Citizens Act) to name a few.
Aside from the mentioned bills, Gatchalian said Poe has been working on the “Sustansiya sa Batang Pilipino” Act (SB 79), Corporate Farming Act (SB 2089), and “Tulong sa Kabataan sa Agrikultura” Act (SB 1282). He added that the senator is also working for an institutionalized free lunch feeding program for public school kids and comprehensive health care program for pregnant and lactating women.
