MANILA, Philippines – The tandem of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano emerged as the runaway winner in the pre-election mock poll conducted among faculty and students of the Misamis University in Ozamis City early this month.
According to the information shared to Kicker Daily News, the poll was spearheaded by Misamis University Central Student Council (MU-CSC) and Misamis University Political Science Society (MUPSS) and was held last March 10.
In the poll, Duterte was the overwhelming choice among the five presidential candidates with 810 votes from the total 1,170 respondents – students, faculty and staff – or a huge 70%.
Far behind in second place is Senator Grace Poe with 13 % (147 votes), followed by former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas with 9% (103 votes) and Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago with 5% (59 votes).
At the bottom is Vice President and opposition bet Jejomar Binay with a measly 36 votes or merely 3%.
Vice presidential race
In the vice presidential race, Duterte’s runningmate was also the top choice with 32 % or 368 votes. He is followed by Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo with 229 votes (20%).
Not far behind Robredo in third place is Senator Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero with 220 (19%), followed closely by Senator Bongbong Marcos with 187 votes (16%), Senator Antonio Trillanes IV with 125 votes (11%) and Senator Gregorio Honasan with 25 voted (2%).
Senatoriable ‘Magic 12’
The poll also included choices for senators where Senate President Franklin Drilon emerged on top.
Surprisingly, Senator Vicente ‘Tito’ Sotto, who consistently topped pre-election polls was relegated to the 12th place.

Misamis University has nearly 6,000 students and is one of the biggest in terms of population and oldest universities in Mindanao.
