Remembering a friend’s birthday is a true test of friendship. And Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr proved that he is a true friend to Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte as he wrote him a birthday poem.
Hours before Duterte’s 71st birthday concluded, the vice presidential candidate posted on his Facebook page a short poem.
May mayor kung tawagi’y Digong
Ang kaibiga’y pangalang Bongbong
From North to South
Be happy and shout
Birthday mo, saan ang blowout?
Currently the post, which was published on Monday evening, has garnered as much as 38,000 likes and more than 3,500 shares.
Supporters and other people online have mixed reactions about Marcos’ birthday greeting.
“Ito ay senyales ng hindi pagrespeto sa inyong ka-tandem na si Sen. Miriam na habang ang kanyang volunteers na nagbibilad sa araw at napapaos kakasigaw ng pangalan ninyong dalawa na ‘Miriam-BongBong’,” commented Rhyan Malandong
[This is a sign of disrespect to your standard-bearer Senator Miriam, that while her voluteers are soaked under the sun, shouting at the top of their lungs your names ‘Miriam-Bongbong’]
“Sana naman ho ganun rin ang isukli nyo sa simpleng pag post sa inyong opisyal na pahina sa Facebook,” he added. [We hope you will return the favor by simply posting (about her) on your official Facebook page.]
According to his Facebook page, Malandong is a member of the Youth for Miriam volunteer movement.
While a fan of Duterte-Bongbong, Jericho Dimaculangan, wrote, “Etong pambato ko [These are my bets].. the real dynamic duo.. the punisher of the south-duterte. Nation builder of the north – BBM.”
The friendship of Duterte and Marcos is known to many. It has also been surmised that Marcos was Duterte’s real choice for vice president had he not partnered with Senator Miriam Santiago.
In his earlier campaign in Ilocos Norte, Duterte made some remarks hinting that he is in favor of Marcos. When he met with his sister Imee Marcos, Duterte said Marcos will take over if he fails to stop criminality in three months as he promised. He also said he is in favor of burying the late President Ferdinand Marcos’ remains in the Heroes’ Cemetery.
