- The arrogant cop in viral video turns out to be a fake
- PNP said there is no officer named Gaylord Santos in their list of personnel
- The suspect is now facing multiple charges for violating traffic rules and for posing as a cop
MANILA, Philippines – The man in Philippine National Police (PNP) shirt who was caught on camera hitting a motorcycle rider with whom his AUV nearly collided turns out to be a fake and is now facing multiple charges.
The man wearing a blue PNP shirt in viral video has been identified by police as Gaylord Santos, a civilian and a resident of Perpetual Village in Las Pinas City.
According to PNP spokesperson Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor, a check with the list of police officers came out negative for someone named ‘Gaylord Santos.’
“According to the PNP Directorate for Personnel, the man named Gaylord Santos does not have any record as a police officer,” the PNP official said during a press conference on Tuesday, March 15.
The poseur was eventually traced and identified through the plate number (UEQ 399) of the white Mitsubishi Adventure he was driving which is registered to a certain Mary Grace Santos.
Mary Grace Santos is Gaylord’s wife and is the same woman who was with him in the AUV in the viral video. She is said to be a professor.
A full CCTV of the incident showed Santos’ AUV jumping on the red light at an intersection of Roxas Boulevard and Kalaw Street in Manila. He was also speeding and failed to slow down at a pedestrian lane while people are still crossing.
It was after he crossed the intersection that the man in motorcycle nearly hit Santos’s vehicle. Santos quickly got down and confronted the motorbike rider before hitting him in the face two times.
Apparently still not satisfied, Santos pulled over and confronted the motorist for the second time.
The incident was captured on a cellphone camera by one Hayley Catacutan and has since gone viral on social media.
“We don’t know what actually happened but this is too much porke’t pulis to. Dalawang beses niya sinapok yung nag momotor. Binalikan niya ulit kasi beastmode talaga siya,” Catacutan captioned her post on Facebook.

Mayor said they are now looking for Santos who could face charges of usurpation of authority for violating Executive Order No. 297 which regulates the manufacture, sale, distribution and use of PNP uniforms, insignias and other accoutrements.
Netizens who claim to know Santos personally said the man is often seen wearing PNP uniforms and introduces himself as a lieutenant colonel in the PNP.
Meanwhile, Manila Vice Mayor Isko Moreno told ABS-CBN News Santos will also face traffic violations for beating the red light, reckless driving and possibly, assault on another motorist.
The PNP also urged the motor bike rider to come forward and file complaints against the suspect.
