CEBU, Philippines – Once again someone proved that it is never too late to pursue one’s dream, and age is never a hindrance in pursuing education.
In an article by Jude Torres for ABS-CBN News, it was disclosed that actress Marissa Delgado has finally graduated on Friday from the University of Visayas in Cebu with a degree in Business Administration major in Human Resource Management.
Delgado, whose career in show business started in the 1960s, was a working student while finishing high school. When an opportunity presented itself in the showbiz industry, college took a back seat and she opted to work in order to help her family with their finances.
Hence, decades passed, and yet the actress found no hesitation to pursue her college dream despite her age. She expressed disbelief over her latest achievement, and for the feat she extends her gratitude to her family for their full support in her thrust to pursue higher learning.
Delgado, who is Efipania Boyle in real life, is an actress with American descent. She has appeared in nearly 90 films from 1965 up to present.
Delgado started her career in the entertainment industry by playing small roles in the show “Dance-O-Rama” which starred Susan Roces and Jose Mari as the lead actors.
After two years, Delgado made her come back by playing the role of a leading lady for two of the great comedians in the Philippines, Dolphy and Chiquito, in the movie “Dalawang Kumander sa WAC”. She is also known for her film “Tubog sa Ginto” which was directed by Lino Brocka.
A section in IMDB said Delgado had won acting awards in the Philippines including Best Supporting Actress for “Lumuha pati mga anghel” in 1971, and in “Till Death Do Us Part” in 1972.
She was also nominated for Gawad Urian Award in 1977 for “Ligaw na Bulaklak” and FAMAS Award, Best Supporting Actress for “Sa Akin pa rin ang Bukas” in 1988.
Aside from the acting stints, Delgado was the first Filipina to pose nude in Playboy, when she was featured in a Playboy USA issue in 1965, as shared in a GMA article in 2007.
