- Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines supports ADMU’s stand
- They twit Sen. Bongbong Marcos for his attempt “to canonize the harrowing truths of martial rule”
- They are against the ‘Marcosian snares and Imeldific lies’ being spread among the youth
MANILA, Philippines – Backing up Ateneo de Manila Universiy (ADMU), the 1,400-strong Catholic Education Association of the Philippines (CEAP) said they are also against Sen. Bongbong Marcos’ attempt at revising the history and effects of martial law.
In its statement “CEAP Supports Call Against Marcosian Snares and Imeldific Lies,” the group’s trustees denounced the younger Marcos for trying “to canonize his father’s regime.”
“The Trustees of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines, representing the 1,425 CEAP member-schools, colleges, and universities, support the faculty of the Ateneo de Manila University in their call against the attempt of Ferdinand Marcos Jr to canonize the harrowing horrors of martial rule,” Rappler quoted CEAP as saying. “With the same fervor, we cry our hearts out, ‘Never Again!’”
At the same time, the group also expressed worry that little is being done to counter the tide of revisionism being perpetuated by loyalists among the youth.
“It seems we have been remiss in instilling in the youth’s consciousness about the regime’s brutal savagery. Instead they have been drowned out by the Marcosian snares and the Imeldific lies,” they said.
Earlier, the presidents of the five Ateneo universities joined faculty members in condemning Marcos for his revisionist attempt and unapologetic stance on martial law.
“In response to Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Romualdez Marcos Jr’s call that teachers and students of history should make a judgment about the Marcos administration, we, the undersigned members of the Ateneo de Manila community, vehemently oppose and condemn the ongoing willful distortion of our history,” the original statement read. “We deplore the shameless refusal to acknowledge the crimes of the martial law regime. We reject the revision of history, disturbing vision of the future, and shallow call for ‘unity’ being presented by Marcos Jr and like-minded candidates in the 2016 elections.”
