- Jeena Dimaandal, 19, sings Sharon Cuneta’s ‘Bituing Walang Ningning’
- Dimaandal who was raised by Filipino foster parents is the first contestant at ‘I Love OPM’
A blue-green-eyed German-Irish teenager said she is a proud Filipina at heart and proved it by singing Sharon Cuneta’s Bituing Walang Ningning.
In an article that was published on ABS-CBN, it was disclosed that Jeena Dimaandal, 19, is the first contestant of the new Kapamilya talent contest I Love OPM. Dimaandal, who was raised by Filipino foster parents in San Francisco, learned the song after watching a 2006 television series starring Sarah Geronimo.
“I grew up with my Filipino mom and dad and they raised me like a dalagang [maiden] Filipina,” Dimaandal shared to the judges; including Martin Nievera, Toni Gonzaga, and Lani Misalucha.
Dimaandal received the approval of all the three judges. To note, each contestant only needs two nods from the three judges to advance.
“Binigyan mo ng ningning iyong kanta. Ang ganda-ganda [You made the song glitter. You sang it very well],” Misalucha commented on Dimaandal’s performance.
As a result, the contestant stepped on to the next round; where she is joined by Pakistan’s Harris Dio Smith and American crooner Ryan Gallagher.
I Love OPM is a Filipino reality music competition which turns the spotlight on foreigners who can sing fluent Tagalog songs. The new talent show premiered on ABS-CBN in the Philippines and worldwide on The Filipino Channel last February 13. Replacing Dance Kids, it will be shown on ABS-CBN every Saturdays after Maalaala Mo Kaya and Sundays after Rated K.
