- Poe speaks up, tells public to spare her son from politicking
MANILA, Philippines – Those are expensive shoes.
Brian Llamanzares, son of presidential bet Sen. Grace Poe, is drawing flak online for posting on his Instagram a picture of him wearing a pair of shoes worth an estimated $ 19,999.99 on eBay.
With today’s exchange rate, that’s nearly P850,000.
According to the website Pinoy Trending News, the shoes are expensive because they are 2011 Limited Edition Nike Mag 10 Back to the Future Marty McFly shoes.
Critics frowned on Llamanzares’ picture, saying it was tasteless and proves the extravagance of his family.
The uproar drew the attention of Poe herself who appealed to the public to spare her son from politics.
“As a mother, I am saying that is not right, but some would say that’s part of politics. But it shouldn’t be like that because first of all, he is a private citizens, and second, the money spent for his shoes does not come from the funds of others,” she told Sun Star.
Admitting she herself was shocked over the shoes after her son told her its price, Poe nonetheless stressed the shoes did not come from government coffers and that he used his own money as a former reporter of a TV network to buy them.
“If you could remember, my son had a job but had to take a leave because the network has to maintain its objectivity. I am not happy with that, but if he’s happy, then I let him buy what he wants,” she said. “It’s fine as long as you worked hard for it and you used your money to buy it.”
