Four hired killers were killed in a shootout with police personnel in Quezon City early Sunday, February 21.
The guns-for-hire were killed in a pre-dawn shootout with members of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-National Capital Region Office (CIDG-NCR) and the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) at the southbound lane of Katipunan Avenue, Barangay Loyola Heights near Aurora Boulevard at around 3:15 a.m.
Three of the hired killers were killed instantly while the fourth suspect succumbed to gunshot wounds while receiving treatment at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center.
One of the fatalities was identified as Recto Piadoso, reportedly a former commander of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA). He was believed to be the leader of the gun-for-hire group based in Talavera, Nueva Ecija. The three others remain unidentified.

Aaron Recuenco wrote in his article for the Manila Bulletin dated February 21, 2016 that CIDG Director Chief Superintendent Victor Deona said their operation stemmed from a tip given by an informant to the CIDG-NCR unit about the group’s plan to liquidate a target in Katipunan area.
The CIDG-NCR unit Chief Senior Superintendent Ronald Lee said a plan to intercept the gunmen was immediately organized in coordination with the PNP-HPG. The group was able to track down the suspects in Cubao aboard a white Honda Accord with license plate UHS 888.
“Based on our report, they are going to liquidate someone in a restaurant somewhere in Katipunan,” said Lee.
A brief chase ensued after the suspects sensed they were being followed by authorities aboard an unmarked car. The hired gunmen opened fire at the pursuing policemen, prompting the cops to return fire that led to the death of the suspects.
The police recovered three handguns, a knife and a grenade from the slain suspects.
