ISABELA – A man took his own life after seeing his hospital bill amounting to more than P180,000.
The man, identified as Roger Benigno from Linumot, Jones, Isabela was confined at the Isabela South Specialist Hospital in Ipil, Echague on February 3, 2016 because he needed to undergo an appendectomy, according to Bombo Radyo Cauayan’s report.
The 40-year-old construction helper was observed to be apprehensive after seeing his hospital bill that totaled to P181,592. His family tried to raise the money but was hardened up especially that his wife suffers from epilepsy. Benigno’s family claimed they noticed how he became anxious following his operation.
On February 19, while the nurse on duty, Julius Cesar Reymundo, was doing a routine check-up at around 6:00 in the morning, he found Benigno’s lifeless body inside the bathroom of the hospital ward where he was confined.
According to Raymund Catindig’s report published on Philippine Star, Chief Inspector Gerald Gamboa of Echague police said Benigno slashed his neck with the use of a 7-inch knife. But the authorities still consider the possibility of a foul play in the incident.
