- Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte again emerges as the most talked-about candidate after the first-ever debate
- His runningmate also keeps his lead in Facebook engagements over other vice presidential bets
- Despite the change in numbers, the ranking remains the same compared to the pre-debate insight
MANILA, Philippines – The tandem of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano remains the most-talked about candidates on Facebook; a few days after the first-ever ‘Pilipinas Debate 2016’ held in Cagayan De Oro City last Sunday, February 21.
In the latest insight released by Facebook on Friday, February 26, Duterte once again emerged as the most-talked about presidential candidate on the hugely-popular social media platform with 60% engagements.
His number increased by one point from 59% before the debate was held.
Duterte is followed by Mar Roxas with 44% (up from 42%), Senator Grace Poe with 35% (up from 31%) and Vice President Jejomar Binay with 22% (also up from 20%.)
Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, the candidate with the most number of social media followers also posted a significant increase from pre-debate insight’s 13% to 20% after the event.
The numbers are gathered from election related conversations on Facebook which is described as “any post or comment that contains highly specific and targeted keywords or hashtags related to either the election itself, a candidate, a party, or a specific topic that might be playing a large role in the election itself.”
Vice President
Duterte’s runningmate, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano also kept his lead over rivals with 41%; a slight dip from his 49% before the ‘Pilipinas Debate 2016’.
It is important to note, however, that vice presidential candidates have yet to take part in any official debate with nationwide coverage.
Senator Bongbong Marcos also maintains his second place with 37% (unchanged). He is followed by Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo with 31% (a slight increase from last week’s 30%), Senator Francis Escudero with 15% (up from 14%) and Senator Gregorio Honasan with 3% (up from 2%).
The Facebook did not provide any data for Senator Antonio Trillanes, who is also running for vice president.
Among other election-related topics, transparency is the most-discussed on Facebook with 70% unique users talking about the subject.
It is followed by economy (31 %), education (23%), social welfare (19 %), defense and foreign policy (17 %), health (14 %), infrastructure (6 %), environment (1 %) and trafficking (1 %).
