Philippine showbiz mourns the passing of ace Director Wenn Deramas; the brains behind Vice Ganda’s box-office movies such as The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin, The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin, Sisterakas, Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy, and the 2015 Star Cinema Metro Manila Film Festival entry, Beauty and the Bestie which has earned the title “Highest Grossing Filipino Film of All Time.”
In an article published by ABS-CBN, it was disclosed that Direk Wenn died of cardiac arrest at the age of 49 on February 29.
This was confirmed by the director’s close friend June Rufino and Vice Ganda on social media after both posted messages of sympathy expressing their grief.
Meanwhile, reports said that Direk Wenn was brought to the Capitol Medical Center at 2 AM. There were several attempts to revive him but to no avail.
Last year, the director had underwent heart surgery or angioplasty.
Initial reports disclosed that his remains will be bought to Arlington in Araneta. Details of the funeral will be announced soon.
Direk Wenn was a graduate of University of Santo Tomas with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. While studying at UST, he was involved in acting and became a member of Teatro Tomasino.
He worked as a waiter in The Aristocrat Restaurant and was promoted as food and beverages coordinator after two years.
In 1990, he worked as a production assistant in the TV show “Tatak Pilipino”.
On the other hand, his career as a writer started for the show Teysi ng Tahanan and was later on promoted as the executive producer of Calvento Files. Since then, Direk Wenn has been directing different soap operas and movies which became tremendous hits.
