Three men restored restaurateur’s faith in humanity by paying their bill after accidentally dining and dashing

Maintaining an honest living in a cutthroat world is very difficult. We have to admit that not all people carry good intentions and when push comes to shove, desperation or ambition will drive them to commit wrong actions. But take the unusual experience of Apollo Apollinaire, owner of African and Caribbean restaurant Kilimandjaro who had an experience with customers who dined and did not even bother to pay.

Although the bill wasn’t too high, Apollo used the experience to remind his staff about the things that could happen in their business. Worst case scenario would be not getting paid for a meal that costs around three to four digits.

But Apollo and his staff did not expect what came in the mail days after the incident. It was an envelope from the three customers who supposedly left without paying. Inside the envelope was the money they owed and an apology letter explaining what had happened.

The three men were planning to pay the bill but it turned out that the restaurant wasn’t accepting credit cards. So they went to a nearby ATM to get some cash and that was when they found out that the last train back at their place was boarding. Completely forgetting about the meal, they went inside the train and got home.

A part of the letter read:

“It is with our deepest regret that not being from Middlesborough we are not able to come to Kilimandjaros in person to apologise. Additionally, we will be giving a positive five-star review of your establishment on Tripadvisor.”

Apollinaire couldn’t help but be amazed at what had happened. The restaurateur was definitely surprised that nice, honest people still existed.

“I didn’t think people still did that. I thought those kinds of people had disappeared from the planet.”
