During an excavation at a mosque ruins in Israel way back 2010, archaeologists were met with shock after discovering an ancient tomb door. At first, many archaeologists were baffled at the strange markings carved on the 2000-year-old stone. This tomb door is full of strange markings that relate to the Jewish celebration Hanukkah.
The ancient door was found lying down as part of the top stair of an ancient mosque somewhere in Tiberias in Israel’s Galilee region.
Upon further study, archaeologists found out that the marking engraved on the ancient tomb door depicts a very familiar symbol with a significant meaning in Israel’s culture. The slab of concrete depicts a stunning seven-branched menorah carving!

The introduction of this discovery to the public during the Hanukkah season is a strategic decision by the resident archeologists in Hebrew University’s Institute of Archaeology. Since the Hanukkah season came to a close recently, the archeologists decided to unveil this to the public.
In an interview with Fox News, Dr. Katia Cytryn-Silverman–one of the researchers who are currently working to restore the ancient tomb door–shared their inspiration in finally unveiling the discovery:
“As this happened toward the Jewish Holiday of Hanukkah – which celebrates the liberation and the rededication of the Second Temple by the Maccabeans (second century BCE) and the miracle of the lasting oil, which burned in the Temple’s menorah for eight days – we decided to bring the finding to public knowledge, as a good wish for Hannukah and for the Holiday Season.”

The ancient tomb door was marked with the symbol of a seven-branched menorah, which is often used by Jewish people to celebrate the Hanukkah season. Archaeologists believed that this grand discovery will help experts to further study the rich culture and civilization of ancient Israel.
