Instead of spending the night in bed after a long day at school, these kids roam the street and tirelessly sell products to help their parents in providing their needs. At an early age, these three little children have already learned the value of money and perseverance in order to face the difficulties in life. Kurt Sido, 12, Lord Roriguez, 11, and Jon-Jon Calum, 9, are peanut and chicharron vendors who are also known as the “Dumaguete Divas.”
Perhaps hearing stories and narratives relating to kids who are forced to work until the wee hours due to poverty is nothing new to us. However, the Dumaguete Divas don’t just sell snacks but they also spread joy by entertaining their prospective customers.
The young vendors went viral after a Facebook page called Hugot Beki posted their photographs online. Although many lauded the kids for their determination and hard-working attitudes, there are some who said these kids shouldn’t be out until late night in the street.
Surprisingly, a handful of the netizens attested that they have once encountered the Dumaguete Divas. According to them, they entertain their buyers through showing off their skills in catwalks, modeling, singing, or dancing. Apart from that, they are also creative and humorous. In fact, reports claimed Kurt, Lord, and Jon-Jon often wore costumes on Saturdays and Fridays.
Dumaguete Divas didn’t just captured the hearts of the netizens, they have also inspired most of them to do better. Recently, Dumaguete based photographer Paul-Gino Buenaventura Guevarra conducted a complete makeover and dashing photo shoot to the three inspiring kids.
In the photo album Guevarra uploaded on his Facebook page, he explained how he noticed the Dumaguete Divas. As he recalled, it was after a beauty pageant when the three young vendors “hi-jacked the center of the stage and started their catwalk and delivered their introduction to random people who were taking videos of them.”
The Dumaguete based photographer also encouraged his friends and followers to help the kids by purchasing their products.
