A family tragedy shook the quiet suburban community of Alief, a part of Harris County in Houston, Texas.
A man was found guilty of killing his own mother.
22-year old Blake Jefferson is accused of fatally stabbing his mother, Alief Independent School District Trustee, Dedre Jefferson, inside their town home. Dedre was on the phone with her mother when she was stabbed repeatedly by her own son. He was then found by the police hiding in a closet of their neighbor.
Harris County police stated that the man was under the influence of illegal substances and in addition to that, was suffering from mental health problems at the time of the attack.
The honors student from Texas Southern University was described by a long-time friend as “happy and always smiling.” However, he is believed to have been acting strange prior to the attack.
It was 2:00AM on a Friday morning when Dedre called her mother to say Blake was acting strange. Investigators said that during the call, she screamed that he was stabbing her and the call was cut off. Her mom called 911 and deputies found her dead inside the house.
They found Blake hiding in a neighbor's closet. He had broken into the home. When the homeowner told him to get out of the house, he said: "Help me. They're trying to kill me."
He was charged with one count of murder and his bail was set at $ 50, 000. While he was being led away by the police, he was wailing and screaming about how scared he was of brutal prisoners.
“They gonna rape me!” he said as he was being put away.
