Help was well on its way for those who suffered from the super typhoon Lawin, as the Department of Social Welfare and Development deployed troops and 5,000 boxes of relief supplies that were stored in Ilocos Norte on Thursday.
These were in addition to the initial batch of relief goods that were already there and ready for distribution for the typhoon victims, according to DSWD Officer Lilian Rin.
A total of 2,080 families in the province evacuated from their homes because of the typhoon.
“According to sources, 5,000 boxes ito na galing mismo sa Head Office natin at agad natin itong ipapamahagi, bale 1 box per family,” Rin said.
Pictures of the storage warehouse in Region 2 were seen by many Filipinos, as a post on Duterte Today’s Facebook page went viral after showcasing the blameless handling and organized system of these relief goods.
The previous administration reportedly allowed the burying of rice, rotting of food items, and hoarding of relief goods in DSWD warehouses.
Many Filipinos were happy to see that these issues have been addressed and that the corrupt system has now been replaced with fairer and better solutions.
