When November comes, a lot of people usually start to think about Halloween parties and others. But amid all the shenanigans and preparations we do, do we really know why we celebrate the Halloween?
Halloween comes in different names such as Allhalloween, All Hallows’ Eve, or All Saints‘ Eve, a day usually observed on October 31, the last day of the Celtic calendar, in most countries wherein its customs are thought to have been influenced by folk customs and beliefs from the Celtic-speaking countries, some of which are believed to have pagan roots.
The various activities we participate in every Halloween are as follows:
Trick or Treat
Costume Parties
Carving pumpkins into jack-o’-lanterns
Telling And Watching Horror Stories
In the belief of some early Celts, the souls of the dead roamed the streets and villages at night so they should wear ghoulish costumes so that these wandering spirits would mistake them as one of their own and leave them alone. Others offered sweets to the spirits to appease with them. This gave birth to the now modernized Costume Parties and Trick-Or-Treating.
People view this day from different perspectives. Some believe it is the devil’s time to haunt people. Some just like to have fun and go on themed parties to enjoy this holiday.
Halloween is both spooky and fun that even kids nowadays are very eager to celebrate it.
Let’s remember also during this time of the year the souls of our late relatives even though they are now gone.
